Welcome to our Website. We are a small non-profit organization in a former mining town. Five mines
depleted their orebodies and shut down mining operations. With the mine closings, people of working
age and their families moved out. Others remained and kept the community running. Lynn Lake still
has modern facilities such as an airport with a 5000 foot runway, a Federal Post Office, Federal Police
Force, hospital, hotel accommodations and other services. Miners and mining service personnel moved
away. Indians native to the region and many from surrounding reservations moved into the
community.
Except for people in the service industry and public servants, people live in retirement,
or on social
welfare, and from treaty income or both. Our organization is trying to reintroduce people
into the boreal
forest in order for them to benefit from extra income and a better way of life by harvesting
non-timber
forest products. Some of our members received special introductory training and we received
a
government
start-up grant. Today we try to earn our expenses. The use of the building is free and
we pay no
salaries. Our basic expenses are hydro and the website hosting cost.
